But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
In a quest to be more Christ-like, examining our hearts is so important. Our walk with God demands it. His Word declares all that we need to get our hearts in the right place. Humility and Pride are two contradictions that we can see, like night and day, affect our lives. I’ve heard it said that pride is like a cloud that blocks grace from flowing freely. Who really wants this to happen? To every man is given a measure of faith in the one true God. Many choose to ignore this and are caught up in lusts of the flesh and/or religious traps disallowing for the truth of God’s Word to sink in. Consider it a cloud of prideful thinking. Humility is loving others, putting selfish thoughts aside and wanting the truth of God’s Word (and knowing we need it daily). IF you want this grace that is given with great love by the almighty God, embrace His truth and let it change you!
The following is mostly Bible study notes to an MP3 message by Dan Downey. Be blessed today!:
Missing grace? Let’s check out our pride levels…
- Pride is always trying to impress. Pride says that we don’t need to spend time with God; we’re doing okay without him.
- Humility is honesty; love is truth
- Humility is serving others. Jesus is humble; He came to serve. IF he came to serve, how dare we think we don’t have to serve. Do we think we’re better than that?
- Love gives.
- Humility gives place to more grace
Numbers 12:3 Moses was very humble..more than any other on earth. He was also the most used man in his whole generation!! Think about that….
He can’t use us any further than our humility allows us to. May be why the Word isn’t manifesting in our lives the way we “expect”?
We are all tempted with pride. We need to learn to identify it.. It is the very nature of the devil and there is nothing good about it. Pride wants the glory; it wants to be seen..to take control to be worshipped and take the recognition.
The devil said, “I will exalt my throne above the stars of God? Do you hear the “I”? ” I can do this, and I can do that….” sound familiar with you and anyone you know?
Verse 14 says, I will be like the Lord most high”
1 Timothy 3:6 talks about overseeers:
6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.
He was steeped in pride and was cast out of heaven. It was very deceptive; it deceived a third of the angels and they were cast out with Lucifer. Proverbs 8:13 King James Version (KJV) The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. The flip side of all this is to love and embrace humility. Pride is a trap for the flesh and will cut you off from God.
Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. (When we see a person with a haughty spirit, we can prophecy this person’s destiny here)
It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor than to divide the spoil with the proud.
The humble can count on the grace and favor of God…The prideful, only what his ability can muster in a temporary season before the fall.
3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
True humility is love in action. Active faith is LOVE. love does not seek its own way; does not rejoice in iniquity but in truth:
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.
Let our prayers be that Jesus is Lord over our thoughts, action and all things in our lives. Submitting ourselves to the law of love. His loves compels us!
Walk in the love of God so you have more grace in every place!
Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
Verse 5 of Philippians 2: Let this mind be in you which is also in Christ Jesus. If you have the mind of Christ, You’re serving.
Verse 6 and 7 notes: reputation means to make empty; to neutralize. Here’s Jesus in Heaven—a wonderful place…then has to leave and be born as a baby. He makes himself of no reputation. He empties himself of His God ability. He lives here in submission to almighty God, led by the spirit. He was an example to the church. That is submission right there. He humbles himself from glory; the next moment he’s in a cow trough. Re-read verses 8-11.
4 And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.
5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.
6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
- He was human and yet sinless. He learned obedience by the things he suffered.
- In God’s kingdom the way up is the way down. It’s humility. You humble yourself and you learn to serve others.
- There will be times in your service you will not be recognized…
- You serve and you don’t get credit but someone else does. What then? Hmmm. It’s a test! If you don’t pass the test, you’re gonna go around that mountain again. When your flesh starts to rise up like that you’ve got to test yourself. What is that in me that wants to be recognized? It’s devilish pride!
- James 4:6 is indicating that He desires to give more grace. Amen.
- Allow His mind to take residence within you. Take up His servanthood. We open ourselves to receive His grace in all places in our lives.
We need to think like He thinks. Pray this : I desire the mind of Christ, I receive the mind of Christ; to see like he sees, to think like he thinks I receive it by faith now!
