Basil is used as preventative medicine against infection. Strawberries are antiviral and a good source of vitamin C and the culture in yogurt promotes healthy intestinal flora. The addition of pumpkin seeds provides the essential mineral zinc, which helps support the immune system.
Seeing how strawberries are a summer fruit, this is a great summer time smoothie for the occasional summer time cold. But do try it in the winter with frozen organic strawberries.
Without making this a long speech, go ahead and try it. You’ll like it…maybe surprisingly, but I believe you will.
1 cup organic plain yogurt
1 overfull cup frozen organic strawberries
1/3 cup loosely packed fresh basil leaves
Up to ¼ cup nut or seed milk for ease of blending
Pumpkin seeds, for eating and as garnish
Put yogurt, strawberries, and basil in a blender and blend until smooth. Serve with a straw and garnish with pumpkin seeds and a basil leaf, if desired.
